Purchase A Gift with Meaning: Fair Trade Supporting Ethnic Hill Tribes, Generating income for single mothers
Izara Arts is a handicrafts/income generation project run by the Khom Loy Development Foundation which works with Myanmar refugees from the nearby border as well as ethnic minority hilltribes. CW Asia Fund has helped market Izara Arts products in Canada. Highlights of the project:
- currently provides work for 60+ artisans – mostly mothers with young children living in remote villages who would otherwise have to leave children with relatives to find work in large cities.
- all profits from the venture reinvested in community projects, training and scholarships for daughters.
- Izara Arts is an accredited member of the World Fair Trade Organisation, and all artisans are paid a living wage.
- Proudly supplying Vancouver Art Gallery, Museum of Anthropology, UBC, and King Power Suvarnarnhibum Airport Shops
You can support these artisans by visiting the Izara Arts website next time you want to give someone a gift.
